  Bryan?
Wow half of the year almost in the books. A special thanks to the Student's from A&T that presented their projects in November. Also a special thanks to RVC of Research Dennis Knight, Brandt Williams and Greg with J. Hyatt Hammond for sitting on the panel. I would be remised if I did not thank Mr. Bouknight and Mr. Foster for the entertainment.

Christmas is a special time of giving and it is also the time for our big Research Fund Raiser. I would like to give my thanks in advance for the tremendous support that ASHRAE will receive as always from North Piedmont. Keep in mind that North Piedmont contributes ~$132 per member while Region 1 (New York) averages ~$20 per member. ASHRAE's reasearch is fundmentaly the whole reason that we are apart of the organization because it is the fruit of this reasearch that helps Soceity with a little "s".

January's meeting is going to be truly special. Since the Winter meeting gets in the way of our normal 4th Tuesday we will be having it earlier in the month and it will be a half day seminar presented by our very on Chuck Gulledge on the new Master Format. Chuck is a ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and this is a topic that will certainly affect us all.

Chapter Technology Transfer
by Bryan Holcomb, Kevin Bengel and Reggie Lee   CTT
We are close to the halfway point and CTTC has had a very successful year so far. Please take the time to complete a handbook review and let us know of any interesting installations we can submit for Technology awards.

Bryan Holcomb (CTT & Chapter Programs), Reggie Lee (Refrigeration), and Kevin Bingel (Technical, Energy, and Government Activities-TEGA) make up the North Piedmont Chapter Technology Transfer (CTT) Committee. One function of the CTT Committee is to "coordinate dissemination of technical information in the chapter's geographical area". That means we're planning Programs, seminars, workshops, and tours.

Further your ASHRAE knowledge with the following Insights.........

History
by Morgan Jones   History
IAQ in 1600 AD:

In the Middle Ages homes were heated with open fireplaces. Smoke often spilled into the room and poisoned the air. King Charles I of England in 1600 decreed that no building should be built with a ceiling height of less than 10 feet and that the windows had to be higher than they were wide. The objective was to improve smoke removal. (John Janssen - ASHRAE Journal September 1999)

Membership Promotion
by Kevin Heywood   Membership
Our November meeting was another successful night for membership. I received one more application for membership. Let’s keep on this role for the December meeting and invite as many guests as possible to come to this meeting. Be sure to invite people who may be outside the HVAC industry but are interested in what we do, i.e., Architects, Building Owners, etc.

As always, we strive to have Positive Membership Growth. The key to this is Positive Net Growth is to have everyone renew their membership. In the next month I will be posting a list of the members who are delinquent. Please logon to the ASHRAE website and renew your membership has soon as possible.

If there is anyone you know that might be interested in joining ASHRAE please have them call me. Kevin Heywood 336-292-8777
