    ASHRAE's Best Chapter
What a great meeting we just had!!!! I set a goal to have 100 people in attendance for the Society Presidents visit and we just went over. The official count for the meeting was 102!!! I would like to thank AIA for their participation in our joint meeting, along with Dr. Sing and the NCA&T Students for their senior project presentation. Finial I would like to thank the Board for the work they put in to this meeting!

If you were unable to attend, you missed one of the best meetings we have had. I would like to thank Mr. Kent Peterson for taking the time out of his schedule to visit with the North Piedmont Chapter. It was well worth the time and effort to get Mr. Peterson here. With that I also would like to thank Tom Phoenix and Jim Fields for their help in working out the details to get Kent here.

As everyone knows, were are coming to the end of another great year for North Piedmont, and we need to end on a positive note. We need for everyone to make the last meeting and research event (Golf Outing) along with the completion of all hand book reviews

The Rudy is within reach, we just have to make sure there is no reason why North Piedmont shouldn't get the 3 Peat!

Chapter Technology Transfer
by Robert Bouknight, Robin Hankins and Kevin Heywood   CTT
Thank all of you that came to hear ASHRAE president Kent Peterson last month. We had a great crowd, over 100! This includes a big showing from the NCA&T student chapter.

Kent's message is vitally important for our industry. I was not aware that buildings consume more energy than transportation in the US. The HVAC industry can have a huge positive environmental and economic impact if we work together with architects and building owners to significantly reduce building energy consumption.

I am sure that all of you are planning to come to the April meeting, featuring ASHRAE distinguished lecturer Chuck Gullege. Chuck will expand on the themes from the ASHRAE satellite broadcast airing Wednesday the 26th.

Be sure to let me know if you are coming to the meetings (rbouknight@jhyatthammond.com). The day before is fine. This really helps control meeting costs! Thanks your help with this in the past.

Robert Bouknight(CTT & Chapter Programs), Robin Hankins (Refrigeration), and Kevin Heywood (Technical, Energy, and Government Activities-TEGA) make up the North Piedmont Chapter Technology Transfer (CTT) Committee. One function of the CTT Committee is to "coordinate dissemination of technical information in the chapter's geographical area". That means we're planning Programs, seminars, workshops, and tours.

Comfort from Ice (PART V) - High School Auditorium

1901 - In Scranton Pennsylvania the June graduation exercises cooled as many as 1400 persons by circulating 3 million cubic feet of air per hour over blocks of ice. More than 6.5 tons of ice were used to maintain a 15 degree F delta T between outside air and inside air. Pans of calcium chloride were placed in the air-stream to lower the humidity.

Student Activities
by Chris Coble   Student Activities
Another great meeting and turnout by the NCA&T Students. Their presentation of there Senior projects was a great highlight for the Presidents visit and I knew that it cought his attention. There were plenty of questions and that shows that everyone was paying attention.

As everyone who attend the meeting knows, Ashanti Hepburn a Junior at NCA&T was awarded the ASHRAE Ruben Trane Scholorship which is for $10,000. We encourage all students to apply for these scholorships.

We have also attached a link that gives a recap of the students trip to NYC along with several pictures from the weekend.
